Best Dog Walks in Mablethorpe and Skegness: A Guide for Holiday Homeowners and Visitors

The Lincolnshire coast is a haven for dog lovers, with miles of shoreline and peaceful countryside to explore. Mablethorpe and Skegness offer the perfect blend of sandy beaches, scenic nature trails and dog-friendly hospitality. If you’re a dog owner planning a trip, there’s nowhere better. Whether you’re already part of the Don Amott Parks community, or considering a home-from-home for regular seaside escapes, or just looking for dog-friendly holidays in either Skegness or Mablethorpe, this edition of our blog rounds up our pick of the best dog walks in Mablethorpe and Skegness. Plus top tips and local dog-welcoming cafés, and why so many pet owners love having a holiday home on the Lincolnshire coast.

The best dog walks in Mablethorpe

  1. Mablethorpe Beach (North End)

Topping the list of walks is Mablethorpe’s North End Beach, which is dog-friendly all year round. Unlike the central beach area, this section allows your four-legged friends to stretch their legs freely – ideal for those early-morning zoomies or a more tranquil sunset stroll. The beach is vast, relatively quiet, and backed by dunes, creating the perfect setting for off-lead fun (just be sure your dog has good recall). There’s parking nearby and bins provided – always a bonus for responsible owners!

Close to: Willows Park – a peaceful holiday park in Mablethorpe, where dogs are welcome.

  1. Theddlethorpe Dunes Nature Reserve

If you’re after a wilder walk, just a few minutes north is Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve. This stunning coastal landscape, managed by Natural England, is remote, unspoilt and brilliant for dogs who enjoy sniffing through marram grass and trotting along the sandy ridges. Although it feels like a hidden gem, there are marked paths and beach access points – however, you’ll often have the place to yourself. Some areas are sensitive habitats, so your dog should be kept on a lead where advised.

Don’t miss: Coffee and a cake at the dog-friendly Lookout Café, with a sea view and just a short drive away.

  1. Mablethorpe Promenade

If you’ve got a smaller or older dog (or if you just fancy a flat, easy-going stroll), the Mablethorpe Promenade ticks all boxes. This paved walkway runs from the Seal Sanctuary at the north end to the central attractions near the beach huts. It’s wide, there are benches, water bowls outside cafés and plenty of ice cream stops along the way (some even offer dog-friendly ice cream!). It’s a great people-watching route, and perfect for pushchairs, too – ideal if you’re holidaying as a family.

Nearby: Static caravans for sale in Mablethorpe mean your chance of a great peaceful environment and seafront walks just minutes away.

The best dog walks in Skegness

  1. Skegness Beach (South End & Winter Walks)

While the central stretch of Skegness Beach has seasonal dog restrictions (from May to September), the South End, beyond the boating lake, is dog-friendly all year round. In quieter months, the entire beach opens up to dogs, and it’s a fantastic place for an off-lead run. Sands are clean and expansive, and there’s usually plenty of space even on busier days. Pack a tennis ball and enjoy watching your dog leap through the shallows – it’s seaside fun at its finest.

Handy hint: Always check the signage before heading onto the beach and bring water for your dog to drink, especially on warm days.

  1. Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve

Gibraltar Point is a breathtaking coastal reserve just a short drive south of Skegness. While dogs are required to stay on leads in many areas (to protect wildlife), this is still a must-visit for nature-loving dog owners. Meandering paths lead through salt marshes, sand dunes, and freshwater habitats. There’s also a large car park, on-site visitor centre and a dog-friendly café to rest up after your walk.

Note: Because of its protected status, lead control around Gibraltar Point is essential – but it’s still one of the most scenic dog walks in Skegness.

  1. Seacroft to Skegness Trail

For a quieter, more off-the-beaten-track experience, the coastal path from Seacroft to Skegness is perfect. This peaceful walk offers grassy paths, sea views and the kind of atmosphere many dogs (and humans) love. It’s perfect for dogs who enjoy a longer leg-stretch, and is less crowded than the main seafront. Ideal for a quiet Sunday ramble.

Close to: Windmill Park – our serene holiday park in Skegness where dogs are more than welcome.

Local dog-friendly cafes and pubs

Mablethorpe and Skegness both have lots of welcoming places where dogs can rest their paws and you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat. Look out for paw-print stickers in windows indicating dog-friendly status.

Tips for dog-friendly days out

Getting out and about and exploring with your dog in tow can be hugely rewarding – but a little prep goes a long way, and there are also tips your should follow as a matter of course.

  • Water and bowl: Taking along water and a portable bowl is a good idea, especially important on sunny days.
  • Waste bags: Always carry waste bags for dog poo – and dispose of them properly.
  • Beach restrictions: Always check, particularly during summer months.
  • Leads: Keep dogs on leads near wildlife zones, especially on nature reserves.
  • Tides: Be tide aware. Always check local tide times before long beach walks.
